I think the mags ok- I agree a modern guzzi probably shouldnt have made it into the mag, but that aside, its ok. Dont know about the staff cuts but its still a mag I enjoy reading...

Well I've got my copy now, so it's now Ok to talk about it !

On the Guzzi front - it's hardly a 'modern' bike is it ?
It's just the latest development of the V50.
And it takes up 4 out of 130 pages, the same as it's contemporary - the excreable Plastic Maggot !

Well, I've read most of mine now, and I think it's a pretty good one as it goes.
Ok, so I don't really 'get' the V7 Guzzi - nearly 30 years progress and an engine half as big again, and it makes no more power than the V50 it's 'developed' from ?
And I can't stand the Pastic Maggot, but the rest of the magazine held my interest.
And I identified Rick's Teaser !

I'm guessing that the new binding has sorted that out.
Which I also like !

Our village postman, Gerald, delivered my copy this morning. First class Hugo, an organ of refined quality, although I found it rather strange someone would build a wildfowl inspired Kawasaki.

I will raise a glass of single malt to you at the Conservative club this evening.

OK, I was hasty! Apologies to the staff, if anyone read my original post.......

I read it quickly initially and it didn't do a lot for me.

However, as I think it is the best magazine out there (overall) I sat down and read it in a more mellow mood. I really enjoyed some of the articles - genuinely well-written.

I don't go much on the Japanese bikes featured, but that is just me being an old codger, maybe.

Thanks for the kind words SFB, you're cool as well!

PeteYam, I don't think we are destined to be great mates. Never mind, eh?

Gus, I'm sorry if it pees you off that some of us have subscriptions.

The comments about supporting local shops are well-founded too - except that where I live the only local shop that stocks CB is Smiths and I don't think they are in danger of extinction. One local newsagent was very unreliable in my previous attempts to reserve a copy, so I gave up. Ho hum.

I'm not sure that any new bike should be in Classic bike - even a Guzzi.

It's nothing new, Velt,  Meriden Triumphs, Indian Enfields, there have always been 'new' bikes in CB. Remerber the Gold Star versus XBR500 cover picture?

Remember, Classic Bike emerged out of bike magazine - not a journal famed for toeing any particular line...well not back then anyway.

The idea has always been to feature modern bikes that offer a realistic alternative to the old classics.

That was a domestic goose:D.

I was actually looking forward to reading the review of the new Guzzi, my brother in law has been panting like a dog over pictures he's seen, he'll be very disappointed to read that it produces less bhp than his wobbly W650. I thing Guzzi should have made a better effort on the engine.

The CX500 article, personally I hate the things, but they are iconic, most of the ones built are probably still being used by couriers in London today, or being lovingly caressed by east german gits with buck teeth and hairy palms.:D

I do find the new binding good, with 130 or so pages, even with more adverts there is sufficient content to make it good. now stop moaning you lot.

More than happy with my copy. DO you think in mere chance that the month before they change the binding style, the pages fall out the middle?

Call me cautious, but I wouldn't put it past the marketing folk to make a dodgy copy in the old style so the new style will be welcomed rather than critisised.

too much thought gone into that?

still a great mag, don't mind reading about cx500s. can we have more bobbers and customs too please?

Triton looks yummy.. can you ship it out with my subscription when I win? Or do I have to come and ride it home. tell you what. Let me win it and I'll ride it home, to Korat, THailand! Now there is a better feature for you than seeing it wind up on e bay!

:dude:

I was impressd with the CX500 article. It got all the way to the end without saying

"Knock Knock"

"Who's there?"

... and we know the answer don't we chaps ( and chapesses)

Loooooooong time since I last heard that. Should have been included in the article for old times' sake. If I'd written it it would have been the title.

Classic Bike is still the best title from old EMAP, the rest is just recycled articles or glossed over encyclopedia crap, no wonder Practical Classics is loosing to Classics Monthly and Classic Cars is loosing to Classic and Sports Cars and Octane. This is what happened when you put Corporate politics and career journalists on the helm.

Practical Classics was only good when they had Kevin Leaper, Will Holman (PPC mag now), Simon Goldsworthy (excellent technical articles). Classic Cars was good few years ago with Martin Buckley (now C&CS).

really hop Classic Bike remains unscathed by these office politics!

On the mag, I really liked the article on the CX500, Courier's trusted steed up to 10-8 years ago.

Perhaps will see a future article on Kawasaki GT550, apparently kept in production due to Courier's demand!

Triton looks amazing considering how few resources Rick had!

Just got my issue today. The Triton looked good. The electrickery bit with Ferret made some interesting reading. The new binding method looks like it's better than the old staple method.
