Before going to the shed, my trainee shedologist suggested a trip to our local Suzuki dealer, they were having a "Ooooh, it's spring, lets flog some bikes" day. I took one of these SV 1000 for a go:

Everything I've ever said about about Suzuki suspension is true. The engine has power, but the bike want's to go.....somewhere else. Back end like a jelly, 'kin awfull.

Then we got a message that the local Harley dealership were doing the same thing, off in search of adventure we went, I grabbed a Buell Firebolt XB-12R:

A bike that knows where you want to go, it would seem. I spent about an hour booming around country roads on this beast at grin factor 10:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D.

I never really liked the look of them (when looking at them), but, the view from at 200km/h is something else.  I won't buy one, but JUMPIN' JESUS ON A STICK!!! I want one.

So what did you do?

Today I took my bonnie for a darn good blast over "Grange road" to Blackburn, a notorious local road that has claimed many lives over the years. These days it has a 50 MPH limit (which is always ignored), there were many bikes out as the weather was good. In Blackburn I did the local radio bit, which I enjoyed despite being of a shy and retiring nature (;)). The return ride was even better, as I was not in a mad dash to get somewhere. The bonnie behaved very well, save for the misterious misfire that appears after shutting the throttle after a blast, and the leaking rocker box gasket, this will be attended to next time home as time is running out fast now.

I also found 2 arrow holes in a door! trainee shedologist admitted responsibility for these and is now barred from the indoor archery range!

Spent most of the day slaving away delivering the mail. Did skiv for a bit talking with one of the people on the route who has an African Grey Parrot called Freedom who loves attention.

Everyday I "play" with him for a few minutes so he can have some fun and he enjoys it.

Freedom is not to be confused with this little bugger

Well yesterday I got up with all sorts of good intentions, (whisper) took the c*r out to the local equivalent of B&Q and stocked up with chemicals and equipement to clean the swimming pool, that was to be sunday's job. On returning home got out the monster and prepared to go to the local bike show, where there is a small classic display. Then down came the rain, so the Monster went back to bed and I watched "The Fastest Indian in the World"  Today I got up ready to do aformentioned poll cleaning job and,..........  yup, it's still raining. So today looks like either fiddling with the XS11 in the shed, or more DVDs, or back to bed, oh, hang on, there's Superbikes from Donnington on t'box, the day is saved yesssssss:D:D:D

Today tho....I'm going to stay up, against all good advice, and take my SR lump down to the cam box to fix that oil leak that keeps my jeans well water proofed.

Hope to have it back together by tea time!

nothing bike related today :( done the washing, mowed the lawn for the first time this year, cleared the pond out and am now going to sit out in the sunshine and read CB !!!!  the cunning plan is that this leaves my other 3 days off free for more sensible bike related stuff!!!

Saturday:
Rode the spuds of my C70 all the way out to Wan Nam Keow ( day of green water?) with friends and humbled a few bikes with my good state of tune. She's guzzling the gas though... well, can't have everything!

Saw some terrific views both with and without breasticles. Then turned back for preparing for today.

Today (as the title invites) I met my students/friends at 8am to go to Saraburi. six of us took off and stopped on the way at an amazing Temple Wat Pak Kow (temple of the white Monk) which is aptly named as halfway up what looks like Everest resides a flippin huge white monk. Naturally we walked up to him and made a tamboon (offering to the monk image) passed some frenchies on the way and exchanged pleasantries then drank water at the bottom before setting off to a rather naff amusement park just to prove it was not worth rushing back for. had an ice cream and a tour and then off to the Waterfall at Saraburi, busy was not the word. Neither was quiet. But it was fun to watch the water play and all the safety enfrigments that would have brits turning in their graves. Sanook mak ( lots of fun). We ate some great food and drank more water. relaxing and just a little hot under the shade of the huge bamboo tree.

Then we set off to the restaurant where we would have dinner while watching the sun go down over the hill in the distance across a lake/resevoir (Lam Dak Kon) which was truely breath taking, as was the food ( spicy!). They serve an amazing Grape Juice here that while a little pricy by Thai standards, was well worth the expense. Delicous! very fresh! Who knows what it would be like as wine...?

Quick jot back to the city and after a little shop in tesco Lotus I am home for a shower and checking up on the forum news.

In short, Bloody brillant day, tired, ready for bed.

:dude:

I spent the morning gardening (to get the browny points) and the afternoon out on the 748 - I know it's only 7 years old but it has the character of a bike much older bike and you have to work hard to get the best from it. In 20 years riding, this is definately the most stable fantastic handling bike I have ever owned (and that's quite a few!).

Please don't pass the original 748/916's off as tempramental Italian toys - you have to have a go on one to appreciate the magic (if you can pull yourself away from just standing and looking at it!).

Roll-on the Ducati owners club track-day at Cadwell in July!

Badgerman, I agree, after doing the ducati race school on one in 1995 I was hooked. I had ridden there on a BMW 1200C and when I got on the 748 I was Carl Foggerty! It requires rider imput for sure but the rewards are simply stunning. Since that day I have had nothing but respect for the 748. wouldn't tour on one (like my friends did in the past) but for a track tool, it doesn't get much better for a rider of my limited ability. I'm sure as long as I draw breathe the 748 will find my limits before I find its!

Well didn't manage to sort the oil leaks. I found a couple of hardened seals and thought I'll replace them, clean up the engine and see where exactly all the oil is coming from. It is the rocker box joint. It really has been assembled without any sealant! Job for another day now.

Managed to get a few other jobs done, like the vacuum tap, as it has a replacement carb there was no vacuum line to operate the tap, well there is now and it works just fine. Great I have reserve now!

Replaced the headsteady that wasn't up to the job with a standard one from my seemingly bottomless box of rusty SR parts. Engine doesn't vibrate half as badly now:?

Found why the electrics were a bit lack lusture, no earthing on the wiring loom, so earthed the wiring loom to the frame and replaced a couple of chop blocks with proper connectors. Nice bright lights now!

Checked the mixture, found it too lean so raised the needle a couple of notches, think it still needs a bigger main jet as its a bit flat after 3/4 throttle and spluttery around that point on roll off.

Not had the bike long and this is the first real delve round it with a spanner in my hand.:D

I own an SV1000 and it's far better than the Buell (I work at a HD dealer so I've ridden all the Buell models- they handle as good as my RGV 250 but the motor is lacking).

Must admit though out of the 2500 miles on my SV speedo 1800 have been done on french race tracks. When I do ride it on the road I'm hampered by a 40mph speed limit so only use 2 gears.

Anyway saturday I was nursing a hangover but had time to find out that my RGV s water pump seal has failed. So that's good fridays work planned.

Today was blue skies andwarm sunshine, brilliant. Took young master jessplop to his footie match, then went with mrs jessplop to rivvy barn, which was mobbed with bikes. Shame the sunday drivers were doing 12 MPH in the 60 zones! :(.

Then this evening, me and master jessplop went out in the fields on crossers, he flipped his kx80 and broke the exhaust, so was running on reduced power and making a huge blue plume! Still, he had a great time and came in all smiles ( most unusual for a 13 year old!) I'll see if I can repair before I truck off to the far east tomorrow. He had a bash on the KDX 200, a bit much for him just now, but it wont be long.

So all in all, an excellent day, indian take out for supper, mmmm! :)
