the battery charger i have is a cheap 6v / 12v switchable charger, it has no light or anything on it to say its charging, but seems to do the job, i have only left it in for a few hours at a time but wondered if it is safe to leave plugged in for long periods?
or should i get a proper 'optimiser' charger?

Get an optimate, thats what I use.
Can leave it on for weeks at a time.

If you're storing a bike, charge the battery until fully charged, then take the charger off. Do that once a month. Assess the charge state with a meter.

I would strongly agree to buy an "optimiser" I tried with a small 6v charger and "cooked" the battery and luckily only warped the cells could have been worse as it kept charging and "gassing" the battery luckily it was well ventilated!!! Last edited on Thu Oct 9th, 2008 12:59 pm by dai bando
