Hi Beach Boy Fan.  What you have there is perfectly normal.  You obviously haven't ridden it yet?  When you move off in gear the tacho needle starts working again.  Try it, I promise it's true:D

Ash is spot on,  remember though that the Tacho is driven off the oil pump.  When the Tacho stops turning so does the oil pump.  This isn't a real problem, you're unlikely to keep the clutch in for 15 minutes with the engine running.

Never even thought about that one! Is it true of all Suzi 2-strokes? (Asks the dumass owner of 3 of em:shock:)

Hi, Thankyou, I did ride it for approx 3 miles but the heavens opened and the rain lashed down so it was a case of getting back home, I do love these forums, you guys are better than any text book for information, One other question, should the gearbox filler plug have a dip stick attached to check the oil level? mine doesn't.

Evening surfsup.

No dipstick on the T/GT 500 motors.  The correct amount is 1400cc , your GT should have this cast into the case near the filler hole (old style 20w-40w without all the additives you get these days or some use a 90w oil).  If you have 1200cc there you need to modify the inside of the g/box with the rubber dam widget and then put 1400cc in (this is a mandatory mod if you don't want 4/5th gears to go west).

There is also a level hole on the rh case but not sure if this is also changed on the GT cases to account for the extra 200cc.  no good filling until oil comes out if this results in 1200cc.
