I'm not really sure where this post belongs but it's kind of about my bike so I'll put it in here!

I'm selling the CL and I've had loads of interest from abroad in it. There's a guy just e-mailed from Germany who sounds really keen but I have no idea of how to go about shipping a bike abroad or what to do legally with the DVLA when you export a bike (although I guess the log book will tell me that when I can arsed to find it).

Any ideas welcomed!:D

I think it might also be worth contacting H M Customs and Excise to find out what is involved from their point of view.  Sorry, can't be more helpful than that.

I only shipped bikes fron England to Ireland but  the onus for VAT and Duty falls on the Buyer and they should also arrange their own shipping.

You only have to inforn the DVLA of the change in ownership and send it on, if the buyer wants to re-register it abroad then he has to pay VRT.

Cheers for the advice but I sold the bike to a guy in England last weekend who was a german and he's taking it back over there himself. Amazed at how much interest I had in the bike form abroad. Cl's must be well popular on the continent!!

I'm hoping I did the right thing here! I gave the buyer the V5c after signing it and then sent the DVLA the purple bit on the form about exporting the bike with a covering letter to say that I sold the bike to someone else who was going to export it. There doesn't seem to be any provision on the form for selling to an exporter; the purple section appears to be for if you export it yourself. Who knows? I  just hope the DVLA will be happy - I shouldv'e covered my back in telling them that the bike is no longer going to be used in this country anyhow.
