ok i know your mostly big bikes but you have to start on something and a lot of people started on sports mopeds.

first this is my already rebuilt ty50p

now the one im working on now

it started life looking like this

notice the lovely red frame YUKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

now its up to this stage

ok the seat cover is wrong but ive a new one and the indicators are mounted on the headlight ( this is my stumbling block im trying to get the handlebar indicator clamps)

also the bars are renthals so i need new ones and a rear pedal sprocket would be nice but its getting there but im having to wait for bits more than id like.

hopefully ill have both complete for the Custom and classic show at shepton mallet in may thats if any body responds to my emails.

Top bike, first bike i ever had with gears many moons ago:)

In my humble opinion i wouldnt worry about getting rid of the Renthals and the likes as bikes never stayed standard anyway. The Renthal bars were as much part of the bike as the standard ones as the standard ones bent so easy.

I think personally that restoring bikes is not about making them as they came out of the factory it should be more how they were used and equipped in the real world. Trail and MX bikes especially as there were so many upgrades you could buy aftermarket that were actually an improvement. Hope what im saying makes some sense:)

actually yes it does make sense, i build to ride not to show every bike i do is put on the road. ok its nice, but they were designed to be ridden and they will be. i just want it to be as close to origional as possible, so it feels and rides like it was intended.

ok its only a 50 but ive other bikes if i want speed or power half the fun is getting the bits and actually seeing the finished bike ( and not mentioning the hours spent on them )

plus with any classic bike its a talking point i put a fs1e poster up at work and the comments from customers were amazing

deenjay,

I'm new to the forum and was having a look through this section and found your TY and it brought back memories of my mate who got a new one in 1977.

It was brilliant to see one again as I don't remember seing many about even in the seventies.

Cheers,

Chris.

As a kid in Denmark, watching the local yobs (from the council estate) on their Huskies I wanted nothing more than a little suzuki 80cc scambler (I was only 9) thi big boys were on huge huskie & Maiko strokers 400cc things, how I would love to have one of those now, and a place to use it.

That's almost enough to put a strain on me trousers.

If only there was somewhere near here to use one. A buddy at work rides a Honda 450 four stroke off road, and has a lot of problems with steep inclines, I will suggest he gets hold of one of these guys, he frequently goes off to Croatia and other places where there seems to be no laws about trashing the scenery.

One of mine-long time ago. 78 WR250. Good in the south Jersey woods, very tight terrain, thick woods.

Just hooked up to thr forum today and to my suprise the mention of TY50's caught my eye. I still have a W reg TY50m which I bought for my son back in the early 80's it was one of the pre reg bikes laying at the back of the showroom deals. It is still in very good order having yet to cover 6k miles.
