Hmmm on some forums that I am a member of one of the assistant managers main role is to check all new members applying to join.  Of course this means having to have your account approved and then follow the link in the acceptance email to get your membership approved. Tis a bit awkward for some, but when I was doing the same I managed to weed out the majority of spammers. You will always get one or two get through, IE  those that know enough biker jargon to fool even the mods, but it's such a lovely feeling to press the delete membership button ;) This means that one or more of the Mods would have proper managerial powers but not the right to delete the site, as one ex girlfriend did to her ex fellas site, and no right to delete fellow managers either as I've come across this too:D:D:D (not by me I hasten to add, I'm not a vindictive person, well not unless you pi55 on my tent at a rally:X)

It seems most spam spans from Hotmail, Yahoo and Google Mail (gmail).

Although it could be harsh, one possible solution would be to require new members to register with a different email from the ones above. BM riders site apparently has done this to stem the tidal wave of spamsters, they even require members to confirm they are humans!

Watching the amount of spammers who have joined since May, I would not be surprised to find out that perhaps a majority of members are actually these pestilent spammers. the only way they can get to me is in PM, but many others have their email addy on their profile. Not a good idea on a site that seems to be becoming a  spammer haven. perhaps it would be better just to give out your email addy in a PM ? (to those that ask lol not to the spammers ):D:D Just my idle mind finding things to do :?

Elf, you have a good point there about the email addys. If they're available to every carbuncle who spams, we'll get the stuff left, right and center. Better to PM with the inof than let the snapperheads get easy access.
