Ray Knight always was an 'OK' fella...he used to spend as much time ploughing the local fields on his bike as he did racing!! :D:D:D:D

I just thought of the guy riding the 500/4, Fred Hugent, I think.

As for Ray Knight, wasn't he an author as well?

He was heavily involved with the rider training at jurby,

and i think now, he is chairman of the ARA,

A very nice guy, willing to help out anyway he can,

There should be more guys like him about,,

the crescent engined (x2 engines) currently resides with its builder john vines from south end.

to answer another question denny macmillon raced amongst other things commandos and dresda honda, and was actually a real nice bloke, his son ricky currently goes well in classic meetings ........ and ray knight was a pompous twat.

I believe kim newcombe used to ride a koinig solo sponsored by RGM of boret brothers fame.

ln 1977 we were racing a weslake sidecar outfit, the tz yamahas were coming out then but we couldn't afford one. There were three sidecar teams in York, Ted Fenwick/lan Ward, The Andrews brothers and Howard Langham/Jeff Sawyers (me) who travelled down to Rolfe Marine in London and bought 3 750 Konig flat four engines. These were different from the 500/680 Konig motors in that they were designed to be used in motorcycles. We struggled for a season to get these running but without a great deal of success. The main problems were that once the cooling system was pressurised as opposed to water straight in and out the cases were porous. The engines were a real bugger to fire up from cold, we used to have to use a set of starting rollers and copious amounts of whizz (easy start) Still trying to find some photos of this outfit and l will post them if l can find them. The outfit was a windle that we had used with a weslake motor and then had converted to suit the konig. lt was a beautifull looking bike but unfortunately it didn't go as well as it looked. The spares for these engines are still available, they list parts for the 500 and 700 (680) but not for the 750. If you run a tz yamaha read the prices and weep. The site is:-

http://konny.cz/price_b/price.htm

If anyone still has any konig bits gathering dust in their garage please let me know as very interested in purchasing them. l remember in the mid 1970's there used to be someone who regularly raced a solo at croft but don't know who he was, anyone any idea? There is quite a lot of imformation available on the internet if you search in german, ie:- konig zweitakt rennsport

This search will bring up some of the collaboration between dieter konig and the bmw factory where they installed his motors in the bmw boxer rolling chassis. l hope this is of some interest to people who are still interested in these motors.
