Does anyone remember or have any pictures of the Koenig solo that used to race in the late seventies, Brands, Snetterton etc.

The guy that raced it was Alan Blasdell, not sure on the spelling!

Also a character, if ever there was one called Lawence Sadler riding a Saab engined featherbed, race transporter a Bond three wheeler (Villiers engined one!) rumour has it that before he had the 'car' he used a wheel barrow and train!!!!!!!

I used to marshall at Snetterton late 60's and during the 70's, I can vaguely remember the Koenig solo, I'm having to rack the old brain-box a bit but hard going.

I have a heap of old photos from Snetterton in the loft, I'll go through through them over the next week and see what I can find.

This was also the period of the Sparton bikes and some wild Hillman Imp powered outfits...I'm trying to think of some of the real specials, but that was a long while ago!

Cheers,

Geoff

I agree there was a lot of specials then, the outfits always produced some home grown wonders!

I remember at Lyden there used to be a Cosworth powered outfit, can't recall if it had much success!

The Koenig I mention used to be turned out beautifully, very professional set up. I used to have some pictures but over the period of years they seem to been lost.

There was outfit that was powered by a ford engine of some sort...maybe 1300 xflow?

The memory is stirring a bit, I did take photos of the Koenig...but I will have to sift through a lot...I will get there. I'll see what other piccies come up, most of the photos are all from club racing, including some extremely fast bantams!

The Cosworth outfit was the Komnik. It's still being raced at classic club meetings.

I know that Lance Capons Vincent is still going.

I remember Andy Knowles rode a Vellocette, not sure if it was standard frame or not!

Don't know what happened to that!

The Capon Vincent is being ridden by Barry Gooding at the CRMC Donnington meeting at the end of June. I was talking to him last night, and he confirmed this.

I remember the crescent well...superb, also at Snetterton, there was a guy , Tom Pemberton I think, used to race the 'widow maker' Kawasaki 500 triple. Hell that thing used to buck and kick and the guy used to really do well on it.

The only time I cry is when I see my wedding photo's! :D:D:D:D

The other bikes to stick out from the 70's club racing scene was the PeckettMcNab kawa...mean and untouchable....and the early Jota's,  and a guy called 'eccles cake' who used to race a big Norton to very good effect, if I remember correctly.

just thought about it, in the 70's, a track that was used for club racing was at Waterbeach in Cambridgeshire...marshalled there many times, sorted the men from the boys. Was this an Army airforces site? The track was a aircraft runway and a very difficult race circuit.

That was about the same time that Steve Parker arrived on scene riding a TZ700 and there was also a 500 4 honda that was pretty quick!

I remember Steve Parker. In or about 77/78 there was a guy that was an insurance broker,,I can't remember his name for the life of me. He had an ex barry sheene 500 suzi, crashed it several times at Snetterton, then he took it to the Isle of Man and was unfortunately killed there I believe.

There was also a guy called jonathon thomas (?) racing some sort of big Kwacker who was very good...came from Chelmsford I think, he took some catching. Ray Knight (biker journo) used to do well at Snetterton as well.

Haven't seen or heard of him since around 1981, the way he used to ride his bike, anything could have happened! He was always spectacular to see.
