Good performance by Toseland, but he doesn't have the air-valve motor like Rossi & Lorenzo for the first 3 races, so he got left on the straight, where the power counts. IMHO, Rossi shot himself in the foot throwing a tantrum to get Bridgestone tyres, The Yamaha is fundamentally designed in colaboration with Michelin, Stoner is world champ because he had the most powerful bike and tyres designed for it, but above all he is a terrific rider. Rossi can't admit that anyone can ride better than him. Dovizioso slipped him one on the last lap which was a beautiful move, I always admired Rossi, but I fear he has the same pride as Biaggi, and cannot admit defeat, he believes it's always the fault of his equipement. Either way, a good race and the promise of a good season, which is all that matters. I like classic bikes, I like all bikes, and I enjoy a good race, 125, 250, MGP, Supersports, SBK, off-road, anything, just give us a spectacle....... The "people" part of the game, the politics, the bitching, the spoiled-brat stuff, I ignore, it's the racing that matters.

Congrats to Toseland for sure, a very professional and measured race from the new boy.  Also hard luck to Smith but great news for the Brit who was 5th in the 125's

His steering damper broke or somesuch.

Much as I enjoyed the racing, was it really necessary or even desirable to have it at night and floodlit ?
Ok, so motorsport is never going to be environmentally friendly, but that was surely taking the piss !

I agree Franky. I used to like Rossi a lot, and there's no doubt he is an amazing rider, but he's now turned into a whinger. He can't face the fact that Stoner, Pedrosa et al are not broken by his mind games. If anything, I think Stoner and Pedrosa have the upperhand when it comes to head strength.

And Rossi's move to Bridgestone may yet bite him on the behind. Michelin seem to have come on very strong over the off season. If Rossi is to win the title again he's going to have to raise his game to another level, and then some. Personally, I love seeing a tiny European factory kicking the Japanese where it hurts. Well done too to Toseland – a magnificent performance. So too Smith, Webb and Linfoot. Oh, and Chaz Davies for winning the Daytona 200. British motorcycle sport is currently very healthy indeed.

PHEW ITS BACK

Firstly 125's look promising, as does JT in the premier class.

Got to love Charlie Cox's commentary on BBC when JT banged bikes "Hi I'm from superbikes" LMFAO

I'm really hoping for a bit of a tighter competition this year!

Now we are talking!,followed JT through most of his career,Not sure if he will ever get the equipment he needs to win the tiltle but im sure he will win races, seems all the rule changes have helped the Dukes but cant see Mr Honda putting up with that for long!

I do love all forms of racing but I grew up on Foggy kicking everyones ass so superbikes were always my thing until the Pirelli thing, now instead of several brits there are..........errrr.........none?!?!

Anyway,looking forward to this season!

Err, what rule changes was that then?  Everybody changed to 800cc at the same time.  Honda are pissed because they're getting beaten as are the rest of the teams.

They're aint no rules that says one bike can't rev to 21,000 or whatever it is.

Typical Honda I'm afraid, they can't  take being beaten by a smaller  concern

Just meant that Ducati have been quicker to adapt to the rule changes, not sure if its anything to do with the desmo system, although I understand it makes it easier to design in high revs.

I was interested in the way they designed the 990 cc yamaha's to basically run like a twin/twin, it obviously seemed to work, not really kept up with the 800cc too much as been a bit busy with moving oop north etc,

anyone going to Donnington?(I will never look at that track the same again after my track day there,I must admit-It scared me!,No grip and ultra fast!),Not sure how these guys manage to stay on!

Dont underestimate Him and JB, Michelin laid back and didnt respond to Bridgestone threat last year and look where it got them, When they get that Yam sorted then we will see, 2 races does not make a championship

Watching the qualifying for the Mugello MotoGP on BBCi.
Looks like they had lots of fun in the wet yesterday !
Bradley Smith had a bad 'off' in qualifying earlier today and is presently in Dr Costa's Clinica Mobile - hope the little fella is ok !
