Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with narrowing down the identification of my friends recent purchase. We have established it's a Francis Barnett but thats about it.

Frame no:- E1735

 Villiers Engine 1 cylinder 2 stroke Mark IX A B 1122

 Oil Tank:- 279275/26 MKII.

Maybe Francis Barnett Falcon?

Anyinformation woukd be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Sherree

A falcon looks like this: (unless of course they made an earlier version with the same name)

What you have on ther other hand looks a bit like this ?
(Edit, nope, you engine leans more towards the front)

The tank looks more like this, but again the engine is not right as it's twin port, is the engine on yours bolted in properly and not just hanging there?
There is also a drop down list with a LOT of olf Fb's , so you might find it using that.
allthough some one will come along later who can acctauly help, I mean while just try to help using what little I know :D

Hi Jamie

Thanks for your input (its far greater than mine!) Well your right - it's not a Falcon :D

The image of the Super Sport you posted looks real close but I'm finding a lot of makes look similar from that era.

I've attached a picture of the Villiers engine & as to whether it bolts on snug or not is another good question - the bike had been in a farmers shed for quite a number of years so its what you see is what you get :D LOL

Thanks again

Sherree

If you have a frame number and engine number, often the owners clubs can supply model identification. Joining owners clubs can be good for spares and engineering resources that you might not otherwise have access too

Good luck with the resto

That's definitely a prewar Francis Barnett - the engine is sitting loose in the frame and leaning on the front downtubes.  Nice project, interesting bike.  Good luck with a restoration.

Hi,

Well i've finally had my friends bike identified :)

It's a Francis Barnett 1929 Empire Model No12..........now I would like to know if anyone has or knows where I could get some pictures of the FB Empire?

Also what is the difference between a 1929 FB Empire and a FB 1929 Super Sport Model No9? just the type of engine maybe??

Cheers
