Hi, I've just joined so that I can spread this info around.

In my local paper the other week and again today is a photograph showing a 1934/35 Norton ES2 single with the index plate of BTN 345.

A link here shows a small picture
http://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/search/zoom.php?imid=1022680
and the article...
http://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/search/display.var.2359749.0.harbour_memories.php

A search on the Echo site for 'Hayward' will bring up the articles.

I've checked with DVLA and it appears that the machine is still alive.

The three men by the machine were Charles Price, Stanley Hayward and Roy Hayward.

I'm sure that the paper would be able to contact the photo owner if the present owner wants to gather some more history on the bike.

There was also a photo of a 1930s BSA, index JT 5323 but sadly this is not in DVLA so I assume that it has passed on.

That's all, hope it helps someone.

Well done Brian. This is a difficult thing to sort, I am in a similar position having just found, courtesy of the DVLA website, that a 'scrap' 1935 Morris 8 that was 'my car' at my Grand-dad's garage in the seventies is still on the road. I thought it went for scrap but apparently it has been restored. Thing is, I still have the old log book for it and would like to pass it on to the current owner but there is no way the DVLA will give out his details. I suggest you drop a line to the Vintage Motor Cycle Club and get them to mention it in their magazine, as you say I am sure the current owner of the bike would love a copy of the picture.

All the best, Rick

Rick, it might of been your car, but is that number still on your car, possibly the number has been sold on ?
The number thats on my Ariel comes back as being tax, tested and currently insured Which took some sorting out.
The Dvla WILL give out details, but the cost is something stupid like £5 "admin" fees.(Rip off more like)

Yes I did think that but it's down as a1935  Morris 8, which is what it was and the number was not on computer so it would have to have been re-allocated as non-transferable ie non-saleable by number vultures. So either it is the same car or the chassis plate has been put onto another 1935 car the same. Perhaps most likely of all, one car has been built up out of two basket cases but it was a nice surprise all the same.

Bit poor if DVLA will give out owner details for cash - thieves paradise.
