Bring back the 10 bob bit, or at least the terms so they don't die out.

That would be a 50p coin.
10 Bob being 10/- (Shillings)
There was a 10 Bob Note though.
Brown it was.
Although in fact, the 50p coin was introduced in 1969, two years before we actually went decimal, so that we could get used to the idea, so I suppose it might have been a '10 bob bit' !

Oh, nearly forgot....the British penny and the American penny were the same size, so we couldn't use our penny for legal tender on US bases. As they were the same size, the US penny could be used in the public loos and the government would get "cheated" out of revenues. So if we wanted to spend a penny, we had to do it the right way and use the coin of the realm.
I thought the yank penny was a llittle thing? I still have pennies and things.
The other day, while looking thru some old mail I found the leaflet they gave out in 1970 about the new money..

Gus, had a semi-senior moment there. Forgot that the 10 bob bit and the 50p piece were the same thing. Don't get much call to refer to them here as I'd get even more vacant looks than usual.

The pennies were the same size so they weren't llowed to be used at all.

Think your getting confused, tuppence happeny isn't a coin.
6 pennies was a coin, funnily enough called a sixpence:-)
two and a half np is a sixpence.

Maybe thats why you thought a penny is the size of a cent, a penny is a similar size to a two shilling piece[florin, 10np] a cent is more like the size of a 1np or maybe a farthing. I still have examples of most of the coins. I don't think I have a silver threppeny bit[round not polygon]. I do have some crowns. But no Guinea coins.

6d or sixpence, that's it.

Still pretty certain that the two pennies were the same size......unless......the 1/2p and our penny were the same size. As I don't have them to compare, it's really hard to say. But I know that we couldn't have/use our pennies due to the size and similarity to a British coin.

I'll get to see them all again in about five weeks.

One of the wonderful things about old money is rhyming slang, it worked so well, like:

Gowaaaaan show us yer thruppneys.

Or simple expressions regarding lack of morals

Bent as a nine bob note.

What about the good old groat... a fourpenny piece and the crown... a five bob bit. I was at early grammar school during decimalisation... we had to learn both imperial and metric and that was a bummer!

So how do you lot feel about perches, rods, poles, chains and bushells and the like?

I love the imperial systems and I must admit to having a split mentality... I must just have been a child of the time..... I had to have my twopeneth.

It just sounds more impressive for marketings sake to say we will sell you a 500 or a 650 instead of a 30.50 or 40.

Here is my personal favorite in the metric/standard equation.  When our pistons wear out, we buy an 86mm "plus 40 thou", as in 0.040 INCHES!!! Boggles the mind, but it's standard practice here.  A subject of much campfire talk at rallies.  We all know what the metric measurements mean, and can sort it out after a moment.  We like the standard though, as it is indeed more human-centric - a foot is measured thus for a reason!  A yard is the length of a stride.   Etc.
[and enough of the xenophobic crap, fellas...]

Merkin World Says :
A pubic wig or merkin as it was earlier known made its debut in 1450.
It was used as a device to cover syphilitic pustules and gonorrheal warts in the genital area.

Merkin World Also Says :

The merkin of the past were made to cover the "filthy running sores of syphilis.
A disease which “eroded the palate...
In some cases the lips, nose or eyes were eaten away, or on others the whole of the sexual organs”.

George W Bush Says:

I am a Merkin, I am proud to be a Merkin
