went up to glenuig with the katana club at the weekend, there was a bunch of ducati guys also up there. the run from glasgow to glenuig is probably one of the best biking roads in the country, and the scenery up there is outstanding too. the glenuig inn is very biker friendly and several bike clubs run up there over the year, there are fantastic bunkhouses with on suite bathrooms, and each bunkhouse sleeps 5 or 6 people in a single and double beds.  we had a great time, and will definately be returning there , this is the link to the place. well worth a visit.

And for those on a budget you can pitch your tent on the grass outside for nowt. They do brekky for non residents to boot. And the road is trully fab - a mix of tight singletrack and fast sweeping a road (with nae traffic)

No decent beer tho' alas

Yes, unfortunately the Scots in general don't seem all that good at providing nice beer, not much demand I suppose :?

I think the demand is for strong beer, and lots of it.

When I worked in Perth, on a thursday night every single resident under the age of 30 was p!ssed by 8pm:shock:.

Yes, they look for quantity rather than quality. At one time you often saw men with a glass of Scotch and a beer to wash it down but now the youngsters seem to mostly drink lager or those silly alcopops.

dont get me on about alchopops!!!, if ever a product was designed to appeal to kids and get them drinking strong spirits younger than the legal limit, its alchopops, evil stuff, the marketing men that promote the stuff deserve public flogging!!!

Frustratingly there is now a decent micro brewery covering pretty much every part of Scotland but most of the remoter pubs don't stock their local brews due to either being owned by Tenants or McEwans (aka the chemical factories) or because the landlords can't be bothered looking after a decent pint. Glenuig used to do proper beer but they couldn't sell it quick enough as most folks defaulted to the usual lager (brown or yellow) so it would go off before it could be used. The solution is for us all to drink more decent beer, raise demand and enable more places to stock it.

Lets go to work!

Agreed - few things worse than blasting along some of the best traffic free roads in the country then stopping for a quick lunch or evening session to find only "fizz" on sale.  Most disappointing and all too common  - although there are notable exceptions who provide a wide range of proper beer, if you know where to look.

Get on the CAMRA website and check out the likely targets.  Lived in Kent/Sussex for a good number of years and quite frankly the English pubs are generally in a different league:dude:

Plenty good Scottish beers available - they just don't like selling it - so it seems:?

Both the Kingshouse and Clachaig in Glencoe are good if you're passing that way.  Plus the greasy spoon (caravan) in the layby above above Loch Tulla  (A82) is good value for bacon rolls/tea etc

Beer is food Lewis.....
