I like Dream Theater, despite Mike Portnoy! Admitedly he plays like a demon, but his use of bass drum is rather too Dave Lombardo for me! And Liquid Tension Experiment have the most excellent Tony Levin, which is fine by me..
Anyway, I prefer my Floyd in the original reggae EAST STAR ALLSTARS!
Here's the guy that basically invented playing feedback, and hence rock guitar -
DEREK BAILEY .
Finally, not rock apart from the label of "punk klezmer", AARON ALEXANDER - apologies for the sound quality but a kicking band!
Oh, and here's some proper PUNK ROCK

Yep, Jimmy, the outcome for many ex-military men ( and presumably women?) is a disgrace.

Pacifist sentiments not meant to disrespect anyone, least of all those who have given so much to serve their countries. My objection is to the politicians who sit safely in their Parliaments and send people to be killed and traumatised in so many pointless, ill-thought out wars - and then discard them afterwards.

Interesting choices of music Jimmy.
The House of the Rising Sun I remember well. I was about 20 at the time. There used to be a bikers chicken run from the Ace Cafe on the Kingston by pass down to the Emberbrooke roundabout and back. The timing was put a record on the juke box. You couldn't start till the first note was played. Out the cafe, start bike, down to roundabout and back again and into the cafe before the song's last note. No one ever did it till the House of the Rising sun came out, I believe it is about 20 to 30 seconds longer than any other records of the time.
I liked the Corporal Fox record jimmy. I don't care who sang it, the song itself was good and reasonably well sung. I don't agree with a majority of the BNP's agenda but I do believe they have the right to public hearing because once you ban one group, where do you stop. If you disagree with a political group you use argument against them not ban them. I may not like Nick Griffin but he has a point in the song, soldiers are forgotten once they leave the army and it is only organisations like the Royal British Legion and a few others that are prepared to try to help them.
Just as a matter of interest jimmy have you got "The streets of London" amongst your repotoire???

Vanilla Fudge - You Keep Me Hanging On - not at all like The Supremes' version

I had the honour of seeing Vanilla Fudge with Pat Travers Band and The Doors with ian astbury of The Cult in 2005 in Vancouver.
Vanilla Fudge blew my friggen' mind! Carmine Appice is one supreme drummer.
Seeing "You Keep Me Hanging On" performed live by the original 4 members of Vanilla Fudge is one of my all time concert highlights.

Last year I was doing the Police Contoller at a small anti trident demo at my work ( about 40 people). It was a friday evening and these 2 demonstators turned up with guitars and started playing all the antiwar songs including Country joes gonna die, donovans universal soldier, barry maguires eve of destruction etc. It took all my willpower not to join in the singsong. One of the officers with me was moaning about this inpromtu jam session, I told him to belt up as it was just like my house on my weekends off

Hi fed up. Top band there me mate. I saw them at the Hammersmith Odeon when they were recording 'What do you want from Live' A completely mental evening
My favourite tracks: Young & Rich and of course White Punks on Dope
Some of their later stuff was very commercial but non the less utterly brilliant

Absolutely Fed and thanks for putting it on there. My apologies for not thanking you earlier. People ridicule George Formby but he was one of many entertainers that worked within ENSA and other entertainment organisations that actually went up near the front line to entertain the troops. He got out of Europe not long before Dunkirk but on the return to Europe he was right up there behind the front line entertaining.Gotta give them their due, they didn't HAVE to go but they did and the troops appreciated them being there. I know nowadays people like George look dated and to some they may even seem pathetic but they were the tops in entertainment in their day. Mind you IF the Germans HAD captured George they would also have captured his wife with him and God help Germany IF they had captured her, she was the original shrew of her day. She watched over george like some kiond of guardian angel, always afraid some showgirl was going to make a play for him and she always had control of their money and reputedly VERY tight with it. George had to ask her for money for a round of drinks.
Gracie Fields popularity dropped tremendously after the war started, one because she married an Italian and two because she went to the USA for the duration of the war.
Another bit of useless information from the McNut files.

Superb Ton Up, thanks for posting
Funnily enough, when ever I think of the Tubes and Fee Waybill I think of that other supreme songwriter and performer Frank Zappa. Here's a sample from the master

Oh most definately Piaf, no arguments about that. We fired our guns for the French Foreign Legion down on the French Larzac ranges in 1964ish and their unofficial anthem was Non je ne regretez rein. Had a great piss up with them and the owners of the bars gave us the wine free. The Legion were well respected in that area. They played Piaf on the jukeboxes all the time. Every time I hear it my mind goes back to those nights out with the Legion.

Saw an excellent biopic on edith, called "La Vie en Rose", in french (naturally) last time I had to suffer an Air France flight. Certainlyt made the journey bearable!
